Artists from the Olde English District of South Carolina bring you their new online art gallery. The gallery located in Chesterfield was destroyed after the Spring 2004 fire. Pictured is the remains of the Chesterfield Community Center which housed the art gallery. All artists of the CVAA were affected by the fire, most notably, Margaret Dalrymple. She was the featured artist for the spring show and lost her life's work. Other artists lost 1-3 paintings in the fire. It is unclear whether the paintings will be a covered loss by the insurance company.
Not willing to accept defeat, members of the Tuesday Morning Painting class in Chesterfield formed the Olde English Art group. The name represents the sandhills area of South Carolina known as the Olde English District. Now all of their art is safely stored on the internet for the world to see and enjoy.
On a bright note, while Margaret Dalrymple was shopping for art supplies at Cheap Joe's art in Boone, NC, she was given a $500 gift certificate by the manager after he learned of her loss. Thank you to Cheap Joe's, the Progressive Journal, The Link, Cheraw Chronicle and the Chesterfield County community for your support of the arts.
